THE DO SOMETHING PRINCIPLE
323 words | 1 min 10 sec read

So I have been reading Mark Mansonās āThe Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ckā recently.
I came across the āDo Something Principleā - and I have to share it with youā¦
Motivation is transient.
Some days you are flying and nothing can stop you.
On other days youāre struggling to get out of the door, waiting for the inspiration and motivation to sweep you up and spring you into action..
Typically, you first feel emotionally inspired, an that drives the motivation to take action.
This leads you to, for example, train, eat well or get that recovery session in.
But how can we tick these boxes (above) when inspiration and motivation isnāt there?
We have a finite time to reach our athletic and aesthetic potentialā¦
Are you really going to let your progress be halted every time you donāt have the inspiration and motivation to take action?
Hereās what Manson suggestsā¦
Take the smallest possible action:
Taking your training kit to work.
Planning what you will eat tomorrow.
Put your phone away in the hour before bed.
Executing these smaller tasks makes the larger tasks seem so much easier.
It is the small amounts of action that drive inspiration and motivation
and the cycle continues with more positive action.
TODAYāS TRAINING TAKEAWAY šļø
āSuccess in anything is tied less to knowledge or talent, and more to action supplemented by knowledge and talent.ā
Success is driven by action.
Taking action kickstarts this positive behavioural loop:
Action ā Inspiration ā Motivation ā Action ā Inspiration ā Motivation etc.
You donāt need to move mountains to feel motivated
Youāre human.
But take just one small step.
Start the loop.
And if youāre lost in what that one small step isā¦
And we will help you identify and take that first step, together.
See you tomorrow,
Dan.
