QUOTE OF THE DAY 🌱

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare”

Japanese Proverb

I love todays daily quote, but I am about to contradict the idea of ‘Action without vision is a nightmare’ entirely throughout this mornings post:

When I first started training, around 2014/2015, I didn’t really know what I was doing.

I knew the basic ideas around training: lift weights to get stronger and to not be skinny, and running would build my engine (not a car, but my ‘football fitness’).

Most of my training life has been a mixture of these types of training.

I would go into the gym, with these basic ideas, and train hard - not much more thought went into it.

Simple.

It was only when I started my Coaching journey that I was more cognizant of how I approached the design of training programmes.

I am a perfectionist, but not in a cringe positive reframing to the ‘what are your weaknesses?’ question in an interview kind of way.

Daily I face imposter syndrome, and this had a big effect on me as a Coach & Business Owner.

I wanted my members to have the most optimal and scientifically rigorous training and nutrition programmes.

So that they could get the best results possible and lead a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.

I overthought both my own and members programming, it caused me not to enjoy training and the training process as much as I once did.

I put too much pressure on myself.

But here’s what changed…

One of my favourite memes illustrates the point nicely (made this myself great isn’t it?!)

Education & Experience.

Now, I would like to think that I am on the far right of this normal distribution curve.

I’ve learned that training doesn’t need to be super super structured and scientifically tested.

Of course we need to follow the basic principles.

But your training needs to be simple, not optimal.

Because what’s ‘optimal’ isn’t necessary for 99% of us.

THE MORNING COFFEE ANALOGY

I liken it to concept of ‘No caffeine in the first 90 mins after you wake up

Which is supposed to prevent the afternoon energy crash.

My thoughts exactly, Luke.

But, that first sip of Latte and my morning routine is a highlight in my day - so I am not going to get rid of it because it’s not ‘optimal’.

It sets me up well for the day, keeps me going, and allows me to continue to move forwards.

LESSON OF THE DAY 🌱

In this case, taking action without a vision isn’t a nightmare

Don’t overthink yourself out of living a life full of health, wellness and confidence.

The best training programme in the world is the one that you stick to.

Don’t worry about having the greatest plan and structure, because it doesn’t exist.

Find something you enjoy.

Take action.
