WE HELD OUR FIRST RUN CLUB!

“The only thing that is doing the thing is doing the thing.”

On Saturday 12th January 2024 @ 9:15am we held Organic Strength Run Club #01.
Growing up I was the only one of my friends who was ‘into’ their health and fitness. I played football and strength trained and ran whenever I had the opportunity.
From age of 13 I started going on runs with my Dad. He would see me struggling and say “’l will be the one trying to keep up with you one day”
By the time I was 16 I was running 5 Miles in sub 36 minutes (low 7 min/mile pace) - even to this day I have been unable to match these fitness levels.
By this point I was mostly running alone. Although I enjoyed my training, I had no connection or shared experience with others, in what was a huge part of my life (training and fitness).
Once I stopped playing football most days and went to University, my running had pretty much stopped.
Looking back, If I was sharing my running experience with likeminded people, then I am sure that my motivation would have remained high and I would have stuck to it…
When we created Organic Strength I had aspirations of one day having our own training facility and community of people wanting to better themselves and become their fittest, strongest and healthiest self.
In November 2023, me and Becca had spoken about evolving our mission statement:
‘Helping people achieve what they previously thought was impossible’
Health and Fitness is more than just a number of the scales, and we wanted to support, to challenge and to improve our members lives in every way we could.
We felt that January 2024 was the perfect time to launch our Run Club…
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Since launching our Run Club this month, the interest in running has grown:
Interest and Sign-Ups for the Liverpool Half Marathon
More Running related training from members
One of our members running on the treadmill for the first time
Big shout out to one of our Members Peter who on Saturday ran outside for the first time in 16 Years!!
Our members are incredible and through Organic Strength we want to empower them to step out of their comfort zone, to do the thing.
Our Run Club is open to all who wants to join (you don’t have to be a member - come on down!)
Our next run is Saturday 27th January @ 9:15am
Distance: 5km
All abilities and experiences welcome!

RESEARCH PAPER OF THE WEEK 📝

Patellar Tendinopathy is a Musculo-Skeletal injury that I have personally suffered with for a number of years. It occurs as a result of high loading and intensity of the tissues.
This study looks at a training and nutrition intervention to reduce pain and develop strength within the tendon.
Protocol:
Isometric Hold Protocol 2x per week for 6 months.
3x Mid-Range Isometric Hold exercises: Leg Extension, Leg Press & Spanish Squats
Duration: 1-3 Sets: 2-4 Reps: of 30s Single Leg Holds
Short periods of loading (5–10 min) are optimal for stimulating the cellular response to load and increasing collagen synthesis
Findings:
Self reported pain in the patellar tendon decreased
The midpoint of the patellar tendon got thicker and wider by 10%
leg press strength increased 187.5% over the period of the program
Have a great day everyone 🌱
