QUOTE OF THE DAY 🌱

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

I made a post on Instagram this week highlighting the confusion that we see in the fitness space online.

The video I critiqued, seen in the image above, claimed that the dumbbell snatch and squat was one of the best exercises to grow your legs.

Absolute nonsense, and here’s why…

This athlete grew his legs to this size through years of heavy resistance training, progressive overload, and maybe some PEDs…

He didn’t grow his legs by performing the dumbbell snatch and squat twice a week.

Yet he preaches that this exercise, with minimal external load (dumbbell weight), is great for leg development.

Unfortunately he is trying to sell you snake oil.

For leg development, we need to bend at the knee and hip (Squat, Hinge, Lunge etc..).

We need to train in a variety of rep ranges (5-20 reps)

We need to do this a couple of times a week, for a long period of time.

We don’t need to be doing exercises like the DB Snatch and Squat…

LESSON OF THE DAY

The more exciting and fancy an exercise looks on Instagram..

The more moving parts there seem to be..

The more equipment that’s used (Bosu Ball, Bands, Chains etc)..

The more body parts / muscles involved..

The less effective these exercises are at getting the adaptation you want.

They are posted for attention & likes

And these creators know this.

So take caution, and don’t always believe everything you see upon first viewing.
