5 SIGNS YOU’RE MAKING PROGRESS
402 words | 1 min 28 sec read

Training requires you to delay gratification, sacrificing your time and effort now for rewards in the future.
Training hard to see little-to-no instant change has it’s challenges…
But fear not, stick with it and your future self will be rewarded.
Nonetheless, whether you are in week 2 or week 102, here are five ways you can identify that you are making progress in the gym:
More Work - You can complete more reps, sets and have added weight to the bar
Faster Reps - With similar weight indicates you’re becoming more capable of handling the load
Technique - Is improving, you’re achieving greater range of motion, holding paused reps for longer, feeling more comfortable under the bar.
Fatigue - You’re feeling less tired between sets and after training sessions.
Injury - Problematic areas are feeling less sore and your capacity for training is increasing.

“What are your thoughts on isometrics?”
I am a big fan of isometrics for a number of different reasons.
Firstly due to their ability to act as a rehab and recovery tool through long duration holds (yielding isometrics) in a number of different positions.
Leg Extension ISOs
Split Squat ISOs
Wall Sit
Press Up ISO Holds
But also develop strength at length and in sport specific positions.
Long Lever ISO Holds
SL Calf ISO Pushes
And finally in improving rate of force development (producing strength fast) via pushing (overcoming) isometrics without making the muscles sore (DOMS)
Their use depends on the context (as usual), so if you want a chat about how they can be used more specifically for you in your training just reply to this email.
But yes, great for recovery, performance and for a tremendous muscle pump.
